The State Fair 2010

Well, we made our annual trek to the Great State Fair of Oklahoma last Friday. 365 days seems like just the amount of time needed to recharge your batteries for this interesting trip. What draws us there? Is it the:

  • Somewhat interesting to somewhat disgusting food

  • Sweet smell of garbage

  • Interesting people to watch

  • Bright lights

  • Animals

  • The fact that the kids seem to love it not matter what

  • That it's a reason to get out of the house.

It's probably a combination of all of the above. Anyways, here's a look at our evening.

The Food
Note to self:

Before ordering another deep fried cheeseburger make sure that they don't deep fry it in:

The Agriculture Building
If nothing else, we alway make our way here. It's probably the most kid friendly thing to do at the fair. The kids love it.

Looking at goats

Planting crops

Harvesting the fruit

Collecting the chicken eggs

Getting paid - "We aren't doing this for free"

We decided to adopt this boy

The Midway

Bright lights and fun people to watch. Guess my weight for $5 so I can win a $0.50 prize? Sounds like a can't lose proposition.

Horrible mother that doesn't let her baby breathe. Oh wait that's our mommy, and oh wait, babies can breath through their nose too.

Daddy takes his shirt off

Mommy getting us more money

It's Time
Do these people know what time it is?

Does he know what time it is? Of course he does. It's Hammer time!

Random Stuff

Pony Ride. My ponies name is Cocoa.

Madeline joins Al Queda

Llama's have been known to spit on you.

First Day of School!

Madeline had her first day of Pre-K today! (sniff, sniff) She has been counting down the days with a sticker game that her teacher, Mrs. Nelson, gave her and today was the day! She looked so pretty in the cute purple skirt and white shirt with pink & purple with sparkle hearts on it that her grandma & grandpa got her and to complete the outfit her "Glizty Petz" shoes that Nana & Papa got her that are sparkley also. The kids lined up where they will every day and the parents waited inside the room then the kids came in and put their bags in their cubbys.
Then Mrs. Nelson read a book about a raccoon who went to school for the first time and was afraid that he'd miss his mom so she kissed his had and every time he looked at his hand he remembered his mom loves him....sniff, sniff. I looked over at my friend Esther and see that she is crying and her husband is giving her a Kleenex, she leans over to me and says, "it doesn't help that I'm pregnant."
Then when the story was over all of us parent put heart shaped stickers on our kids hands that Ms. Labus had given us during us during the story. I hugged her and we kissed and did nose kisses and I told her how much fun she was going to have learning and that I wanted to hear all about it when I picked her up. (sigh)
She got in the car after school and said "I LOVE SCHOOL!!!! IT'S THE BEST THING EVER!!!!"

Cookies?

We have a tradition of making cookies and watching a movie when it's raining out. The girls have come to love this tradition and if it's raining when they wake-up they say, "Yeah, cookie day!"
As you know it rained a LOT yesterday and I was watching the news to see if it was going to rain today, which was also Madeline's first day of Zoo Camp. When the weatherman said it would rain through Tuesday morning she turned to me and said, "Does the zoo make cookies?" So cute!

Grace says.....

Aunt Debbie sent the girls leotards (Madeline is starting dance class this August and is very excited about it!). So Grace comes running down the hallway in her leotard and says, "See my Re-a-tard!" yup, re-a-tard! She's so darn cute!

Then I just threw in the one of Ephraim with his little cousin Rylon (Mike, my brother & Kristen's son; he was born May 1st.)

ahhhh

Grace thinks Abe does ....anytime she can't find anything or needs to blame something on someone Mommy is happy that Grace choses to blame Daddy instead of Mommy! She'll go up to him and say her complaint then when he says that it wasn't him that did it she'll say "Jew, Did It!" *meaning "you" did it! Very cute to hear!

New House

Some of our friends are moving (the girls play with their kids) and I was showing Madeline pictures on line of their new house (that's completely empty) and showing her who's bedroom is who's and we go through all the pics (25 of them) and she responds with "It's sooo pretty; but where are all the toys?" She was very concerned that her friends weren't going to have any of their toys to play with.

Abe

So Abe and I are in Ephraim's room the other day, with Ephraim and Abe is on the floor. Grace comes in and puts her little hand on Abe's shoulder and pats him gently and says, "Abe, can I have a vitamin?" "Abe"....she calls him Abe sometimes.....we think it's kinda funny. He'll give her something and she'll respond "thanks Abe".....hahah....cute~

Here....Catch

ahhhhh Gracie, she likes to throw everything to us, she'll say "Here, catch!" and throw whatever it is at you. It's crazy sometime b/c she doesn't give you time to see what she's throwing it before she's already thrown it.
So yesterday while Abe was emptying the dishwasher Grace was helping and she usually puts away the utensils and he hears her say "oh knife, here, catch!" and throws a steak knife at him. You can guess his response to having a knife thrown at him...she didn't bat an eye though.

High Achiever

Madeline has her 4yr. old check-up this week and my friends who go to the same pediatrician have told me that at the 4yr. old check-up she wants them to know their phone number, address, and how to spell their name. So I've been working with Madeline on all of those things.

Well since she's a first born and a high achiever she keeps asking me to "ask me questions" like "what's your address, phone number and how do you spell your name." I have to ask them in different voices and she answers them very seriously too!
